UAS Resolution In Support of Noncitizen Students, Faculty, and Staff

Whereas, more than 1,800 noncitizen students and faculty had their visas and/or SEVIS records summarily revoked in the early weeks of the Trump administration鈥檚 鈥淐atch and Revoke鈥 program, in some cases because they had engaged in political speech or protest activity that the administration has targeted; and

Whereas, in January 2025, the Department of Homeland Security directed that university campuses are no longer exempt from immigration law enforcement;

Therefore, be it resolved, that the 天美传媒 Academic Senate stands with all students, staff and faculty, citizen and non-citizen alike, in support of their first amendment rights to free expression;

And be it further resolved, that it is the sense of the 天美传媒 Academic Senate that:

  1. 天美传媒 should provide recommendations of best and safest practices for international students, staff and faculty who must travel outside the US, to minimize the chances that they will be denied entry; and
  2. 天美传媒 should establish a program of support to connect international faculty and staff with legal resources and required work documentation; and
  3. 天美传媒 should make every effort to lead a collaborative effort wherein AJCU institutions shall make available, at the request of any AJCU institution experiencing direct political infringement, the services of their legal counsel, governance experts, and public affairs offices to coordinate a unified and vigorous response.
