You would be Wyze to buy and integrate these in HA.

Prior to getting into Home Assistant I started to buy Wyze Cameras. They were these little cameras you could buy for twenty dollars. They started to build their own ECOsystem. Now they have cameras, sensors, watches, and even scales. I used them for about two years prior to moving to Home Assistant. Just like everything in smart home tech, someone figured out a way to integrate Wyze into Home Assistant.

Wyze Sense

They are pretty small devices:

They are not WIFI devices. They run on RF but they run at 915 Mhz. So they are higher in the frequency range than most RF devices. Wyze uses their own bridge which, if you are using their ecosystem, plugs into the back of their cameras.

But like everything I do I integrate it into Home Assistant. Here is the link to the component:

WYZE sense component for Home Asisstant

Install it like you do any other component. Then in your yaml add this to allow it to find your devices:

binary_sensor:
  - platform: wyzesense
    device: "/dev/hidraw0"

The device is what your Pi/computer assigns its device location. I had a hard time initially setting this up. But then reading further you can put this in instead:

binary_sensor:
  - platform: wyzesense
    device: auto

It will find the device depending on what usb port you plugged it in. Restart Home Assistant and if after it is all up and running the light on the bridge will turn from an orange/yellow to a blue. If it's blue you are good to go.

If it worked if you go into your "Developers Tools" and got to call service look for this skill:

You are in business. Now you can set up Wyze Devices into pairing mode and they will be discovered in HA as Binary Sensors.

They are ultra responsive and now they run locally on your system in HA. You can buy any of the sensors for pretty cheap compared to what you would pay for Zigbee or Z Wave devices.

So if you are looking for an alternative to Zigbee or Z Wave. You should look into Wyze sense. They are always developing new devices. The next thing I am going to try is their new lock. It is less than $100 and it is supposed to be Zigbee. Let me know what you think. As always follow me on twitter and Facebook for further posts or other content.
